Ramakrishna Math, Puri

Established in 1932, this center stands on the sea beach at Chakratirtha, Puri.

We have daily worship, occasional bhajans, and fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan, devotees’ conventions, celebration of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other religious luminaries and festivals.

Swami Brahmananda (Raja Maharaj) loved Puri for its spiritual atmosphere and he came here many times. He wanted to set up a Math in the Jagannath-kshetra and pointed out a piece of land on the bank of the sea at Chakratirtha which belonged to the property of Ramakrishna Basu, son of Balaram Basu, a spirited devotee of Sri Sri Thakur.

We have two campuses divided by one tiny lane. One side, adjacent to the sea shore, has shrine and prayer hall, monks quarter, kitchen and vegetable garden, and the other campus covers guest house, staff quarter, office, dispensary and garden. Near the entrance of the temple, on the right is the beautiful statue of Holy Mother at the Mandir veranda.

The ideology of Ramakrishna Math outlined finds expression through our multifarious activities of the Math—whether it be educating students at a school (or) nursing patients in a medical facility—are considered different forms of a single act of worship.

All these activities are conducted as service, service to God in man.
